Robyn Matlock’s background in fitness and holistic health strongly influenced her choice of psychology studies. Interested in the connection between habitual poor posture and habitual rigid attitudes, Ms. Matlock obtained a Masters in Psychology with a focus on Somatics, (Body Centered Psychotherapy.) She further trained for two years in Hakomi, a blend of Buddhist mindfulness and Somatics. For four years she interned at the Center for Somatic Psychotherapy, specializing in Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Depression, Life Transitions, Women’s Issues and Deep Character Change.
Later interested in the connection between Trauma and Addiction, Ms Matlock studied Addiction and more traditional psychotherapy approaches such as Solution Focused Therapy and Cognitive Behaviorism. Since 1998 she has worked in substance dependency and mental health at various Bay Area agencies: Adult Rehabilitation Center, SAGE Project Inc., Haight Ashbury Free Clinic Inc. and Mills Peninsula Hospital.
Since 2001, she has had a part time private psychotherapy practice, utilizing a balanced mix of traditional and somatic approaches.
